Apple requires you to spend your account balance before changing country or region. If the remainder is too small to buy anything, you can contact Apple Support.

Why the balance matters

According to Apple, you need to spend any remaining balance before changing your Apple Account country or region. If the remaining amount is less than the cost of a single item, you can contact Apple Support.

Apple: Change your Apple Account country or region

Before you start

  • A cleared balance is not refunded and cannot be restored.

  • If the remaining amount is higher, the advisor may ask you to spend part of it first.

  • Subscriptions, pending charges, pre-orders, rentals and Family Sharing can also block a country or region change.

  • After the change, you need a valid payment method and billing address for the new country or region.

Clearing the balance removes the remaining amount permanently. Confirm the account and target country or region before creating the task.

Handle it in AppleHelper

In Chat tasks, choose Clear Balance and the account. AI explains that the balance must be cleared to change country or region, answers questions about the device, system version and target country or region, and agrees to proceed once the advisor confirms the balance will not be refunded.

When the advisor needs a Support PIN, it can be retrieved automatically if your settings allow it. Review the outcome and full conversation in Chat tasks.

After the balance is cleared

Once the advisor confirms the balance is cleared, change the country or region in your account settings. If the change still fails, follow Apple's guidance for remaining subscriptions or pending items.
