How do Apple Account locks differ from App Store restrictions?

Identify where the restriction occurs, then choose the appropriate process.

Distinguish the issues

Being unable to sign in or verify an account is different from a restriction on store downloads or purchases. Look at the context and the complete message rather than choosing a task based only on the word “locked”.

Account sign-in or verification restrictions
Arise while accessing or verifying the account. The relevant process may involve resetting a password or requesting access.
App Store or Media & Purchases restrictions
Arise during store, download or purchase activity. You may need to request reactivation or contact Apple.

Unlocking the account does not automatically remove App Store restrictions.

Find the appropriate Apple process

  1. Disabled for security reasons

    Follow Apple's password reset guidance.

  2. Locked or not active

Use Request Access when offered, or follow Apple's account access process.

  3. Media & Purchases disabled

Use Continue when offered to request reactivation, or go through Apple Support.

What can AppleHelper assist with?

Automatic unlocking addresses account sign-in or verification locks encountered in supported workflows. Restore App Store Access is a separate support task for App Store and iTunes restrictions.

Automation requires the relevant feature to be enabled, account information that meets verification requirements and enough points. Follow the task guidance for verification that cannot be completed automatically.

Some unlocking flows reset the password and update the password saved in AppleHelper. Update any account details you keep elsewhere as well.

If access is still restricted

Check the current task status, result and Apple's latest guidance. Provide missing details or use the applicable actions. Do not assume that completion of a different process means the restriction has been removed.

AppleHelper cannot decide Apple's review outcome or guarantee that account or store access will be restored.
